The Lost Symbol

by nesohu on Sep.23, 2009, under Uncategorized

This book is a continuation of Robert Langdon, a symbologist who was tricked to Washington DC on a quest to find “the lost symbol”. Following his journey, we learn how to solve puzzles one after another through historical contradictional believes as well technological advancement. Compared to his earlier few titles, Dan Brown have put more concentration on describing the scenes in detail. In this book, he also uses better english even my dad is tempted to flip the pages.

The twists in the story are more or less predictable, but it still gives me the kind of reading pleasure I’m expecting from this bestselling author. What gives me the most satisfaction is the way Dan brings out the message of the story.

Like Kung Fu Panda, the Lost Symbol tries to tell us that sometimes, when we are seeking for knowledge & power, all we need to do is to look into ourselves. That’s really a powerful message. Humans are capable of creating so much good but many of us does not realized that.

So readers, take some time tonight and find out, what you are actually capable of. The Lost Symbol is a worthy read…I’m sure it’ll be an international best seller.

Soo Wincci in Penang

by nesohu on Sep.15, 2009, under Uncategorized

nsh_9618s

I’ve been a fan of Ms Malaysia/Universe 2008/2009 Ms Soo Wincci (Datuk?) since I read about her on the newspaper. Since then, I’ve been actively following her blog – she writes pretty well and updates more frequently than me (shameful). I’m touched not only by her beauty but more importantly her determination to succeed.

So happen I was there in Gurney with my friend Bernard. I was so attracted to her singing that he call me a “chiko pek“. Well most people will just shy away but for me? Well, I’m there to get what I want – to get up on stage & tell her how much I admire her work – 1Malaysia (1 song 3 languages), 10Cents (charity from small), and may i repeat a singer that have gone through thick n thin to get her success.

Soo Wincci, I love your work. Keep it up.

1st iPod Nano 5G in Malaysia

by nesohu on Sep.12, 2009, under Uncategorized

When I’m excited on a new tech (ever so often), i’ll usually be the 1st to be on the que to get it. But this time, it’s different. I won’t say that I’m a Apple fanboy, nor would I say that iPod is my life. I’ve already got an e71 with me. Anyway, so happens 9-9-9 is such a auspicious day that Al-Steve came out from his rest/retirement to announce this product. The moment Switch annouce that 1st shipment will arrive in Penang, I quickly rush to the doors.

Unfortunately the place is so deserted only a few souls can be seen checking out the old iPods

I was waiting for the stocks to arrive, but 10 mins after 7, still nothing

As I was about to give up & go fill my stomach, I saw this I can’t contain my excitement any longer ( you could say that I’m now an Apple convert)

There are so many colors, I felt kinda lost. The sales personnels are as lost as I am as they are busy x’check the quantity.

They got the new camera-less iPod Touch with the only one dull “Buy or no Buy – Black”

Happy owner with her iPod

What’s good:
1. Best iPod Nano ever – camera, fm radio, pedometer
2. Games included
3. Headphones are sharp & clear
4. 2.2″ screen projects very sharp images
5. Weightless!!! (I can’t even feel it on my hands)

What’s bad:
1. Built in battery – non replaceable
2. I’m so addicted~!!!
3. Might even get one for myself

Now why would I buy an iPod for my wife? Well, she’s just simply cute…and that’s a good enough reason to get her 1. I love you dear, Happy 2 months Anni.

Why I update my e71

by nesohu on Sep.11, 2009, under IT

e71-1Cell phones updates are available ever since phones have built in memory (ROM, RAM). These updates are technically known as firmware updates. We can easily updated our phones by following just a few simple click. But, how many of us actually D.I.Y.? Here’s a few reasons why I update mine:

1. Bug fixes

Today people can’t wait for new devices to come out. Even before the announcement of a product, tech fanatics (like me) have been updating their RSS feeds for Rumors and Leaks. Hence the manufacturers ships the devices before running sufficient tests. Once the device is found defective they either – Recall or FixIt through a firmware update. Else, you might find your device explode out of a sudden.

2. Enhance user experience

One of the main reasons why people upgrade phones is for better User Interface. Nokia releases >30 different phones every year, with minor differences. These upgrades are usually available for older phones to thank them for their continuous support in their line of phones. Besides there are so many themes out there that we can use to customize our phones.

3. Freebies

Mobile phones are the most important device in our modern lives. I got my Nokia e71 for myself last X’mas not because I was influenced in anyway (peer pressure, advertisement and stuffs) but it’s actually a power tool to me. I need the hardware functionality – speed, GPS, camera, 3.5G connection, QWERTY…

Just like a PC that comes with WindowsXP, a mobile phone will only do that much unless you install the necessary applications for it to run. Among the few free apps in my e71 includes:
1. Jabplite (Personal Finance)
2. Quick Office Premier 6.0 – one upgrade that worth at least RM50 by itself
3. Opera Mini – Most popular mobile web browser available.

Just make sure you uninstall those bloatwares that you don’t need.

Btw…for those of you who are hunting for a new phone, don’t wait…get a e71. It’s the only phone I can rely on.

What happens in August

by nesohu on Sep.07, 2009, under Uncategorized

First, let’s talk about what I’m passionate about: Photography. This month – is a month where graduates paid hundreds to throw their motar boards. 2 of my relatives actually asked me for a convo package. Both have different things in mind, but they did actually pay me for the costs of photography. Everything needs a start right? Thanks to both Yuan and LMH for giving me the opportunity to share they happiness.

After coming back for 3 months, I finally managed to get the artwork complete for my 1st photobook. The prints came back in just a week and I’m amazed by the quality of the prints as well as the packaging as a whole. I’m thinking of using their services for my future clients as well.

Talking about that, I have a call from Aishah who will be marrying in December. After understanding what she needs, we managed to seal the deal. Well, hopefully through that, I’ll be able to help preserve those sweet moments from other Malay couples in the coming months. As for weddings, I’ve already agreed a close friend of mine to be the Master of Ceremony on her BIG Day next month.

That’s why I believe in the power of Prayers, as well as Miracles. 2 weeks ago, I bought a Capdase Flip-top for my Nokia E71. This phone is like the only phone in the market that fits my lifestyle. There’s a belt-clip just compliments how good this phone already is. Both of them goes perfectly together, until….I dropped the phone after work in the car park. That evening it was raining cats n dogs, and I have 3 meetings to attend at different parts of Penang. After finished my business, I went back searching for it. For the next 2 days, I was so upset.

Dad once told me, always buy something which you can afford to replace. For this Nokia e71, I’ve enough money to get a new one, but seems like God is telling me…”Son, don’t buy yet…your phone will come back to you”. True enough, after getting the word out, I managed to got a call from the security manager. When I saw my phone on the table, I went down on my knees and prayed. Thank you Lord, for bringing us back together. Lord hear our prayers.

As for our family business, I did not hit the target we wanted. Instead, I managed to get 2 partners into my team and bring a family to the shop. It does surprises me how much people can afford when they say they “don’t have money”. Lesson learn: When there’s a will, there’s a way. Besides, I was approached by both Nu Skin and Agape…after looking at their marketing plan, my confidence in my choice gets firmer. Lesson #2: If you don’t do it, someone else will.

In Toastmasters, this month is full of contests. Averagely there are 2 contests held/night. Thanks to Gerald Green, Karen Teh and Terrence for backing me up when I needed you most. Besides, I managed to feel the stress of listening to 14 Humorous & Evaluation speeches a night. Jessica Ho also showed us how a proper “Judges Brefing” is to be done – FEED THEM!!! I can’t control my laughter when she gives a breifing entirely in Hokkien. I’m quite sure who will win this time’s Division Humorous contest, but I won’t reveal the results until the finals. Evaluation workshop for Division S is also done twice – for members and champions. The turn out is amazing as they were trained by not 1, not 2 but THREE DIVISION CHAMPIONS – Saw, Charles and Lilian.
Contestant's Breifing

As an engineer, I got 1 new engineer and a trainee coming in to ease my workload. These two young people are really passionate about their work, and I really love to teach them whatever I know about the Tester. But on the flip side, it does feels like there are 2 extra pair of eyes observing my every move. Can’t get to serve the web that often now – which is good, as I’ll be completing my 30-month project in less than 2 years. Yay~!!!

Sure, there are a lot of things that I did this month. Sure, it’s difficult for me to balance up all these portfolio. I’m never able to reach home before 11pm. But, that’s all worth it cause when we are young, we need to fought for it – for a better lifestyle and for freedom. Happy independence Malaysia.
