by nesohu on Feb.26, 2010, under Photography
Jade Emperor’s Birthday a.k.a. Hokkien New Year was one of the events that captures most faithful chinese worshipper’s attention. This is especially so for Hokkiens to pay gratitute to Jade Emperor for hiding them in the sugar cane bushes to escape from trouble.
This year I’ve visited 2 of the most prominent location to offer prayers in Penang. Jade Emperor’s temple in Ayer Itam as well as the longest offering in Chew Jetty. It’s quite grand as you can see on the photos below. Cheers.

The 7th day of CNY is one of those days I’ve been waiting for. It’s when the Penang state chinese clan association organizes a grand cultural celebration in Georgetown area. Here are a few shots I’ve managed to processed thus far.
High Dynamic Temple

After reading through books and books, study about softwares available and all, I can’t really understand how people came up with HDR images that are so impactful. Even after trying out the techniques used on YouTube, I still can’t get a decent photo other than a real dull gray-toned image.

Today, we went over to BM to attend a Leadership seminar. During that evening, she pampers me by bringing me out for a nice photo trip. I wouldn’t have love her more. This temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Peninsular Malaysia. The inside is kept to pristine cleanliness, and the marbles are really well crafted.
More importantly I managed to create my 1st HDR….manual HDR. I literally paint the whole image over layer after layer. Process is quite tedious, but the workflow can be summarized as follows:-
1. Take 5~7 shots in 1EV step
2. Put the brightest layer on the bottom, and stack the brighter layers on top depending on their exposure
3. Use Layer Mask and darken all the layers
4. Paint out the exposure of a particular spot as you desire.

Success. Yay~ 10s Choobee. You are really lovely.
